The Mendocino Baking Company specializes in all-natural gluten-free baked goods such as breads, cookies, muffins, cakes and crackers. We are committed to producing and selling the highest-quality artisan products and inspiring trust and loyalty in our customers.
All of our products are handmade in a certified home kitchen and sold at various farmers’ markets and specialty retailers in Mendocino, Lake and Sonoma counties, California. They can also be purchased online and shipped directly to your home.
Mendocino Baking Company was founded in 2014 as a small business selling cookies at Albion Farmers Market. As its reputation for making high-quality, flavorful baked goods grew, the company eventually began selling its products at several other farmers’ markets in the county, as well as numerous local grocery stores and cafés. Within just a few short years it had become Mendocino County’s favorite supplier of home-made, gluten-free baked goods.
In 2022 the company went dormant for a few months while it changed hands, but in early 2023 it reopened again under the ownership of Rick Beal. It still offers the same quality products that our customers have come to expect – made with the same recipes, ingredients, and care – plus some new menu items that have never been offered before!
We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy delicious breads, pastries and cookies, even if they suffer from celiac disease, IBS, or other conditions caused or aggravated by gluten intolerance.
We also believe that baked goods can be tasty and healthy simultaneously. Our products are generally low in sugar and/or use sweeteners on the low end of the glycemic index, such as agave syrup, honey, organic coconut sugar, and organic maple syrup. We use healthier fats such as extra virgin olive oil and organic coconut oil, and don’t use allergens such as corn and soy. In addition, many of our items are vegan, and use flax meal as a replacement for eggs, and Earth Balance or vegetable oils as a butter replacement.
We take pride in using mainly organic ingredients, and avoid GMOs, chemicals and preservatives. We bake with whole grain, gluten-free flours, certified gluten-free oats, whole nuts, locally sourced fresh produce and dairy, organic raw cane sugar and coconut sugar. Our products are made with the best Mother Nature has to offer in order to bring you consistently good eats: food that is flavorful, healthy, natural, gluten-free and always a great choice.
Originally from Colorado, Rick is a professional chef who has lived in California on and off for over 24 years. He started cooking in junior high school, and since then his experience has run the gamut from raw food, to barbecue, to French-Asian fusion, to of course, baking. In 2022 he moved to Mendocino County from Placer County, where he had been the lead chef at a well-known winery bistro for many years. Now a resident of Ukiah, he is excited to focus on bringing Mendocino Baking Company’s gluten-free baked goods to the community once again.
